ST. LOUIS (Heartland Newsfeed) — Dangerously cold conditions will be present this weekend going into next week, according to an advisory and subsequent warning issued the National Weather Service in St. Louis at 10:59 a.m. Saturday morning.
A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon on Tuesday, January 2. A wind chill warning is in effect until noon on New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1.
Dangerously cold wind chills can be expected, with the coldest being expected on Sunday evening and Monday morning, at times reaching wind chill factors of -25 or lower and will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
The affected regions include central, east central and northeastern Missouri and most of central Illinois.
A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves, making sure all exposed skin is covered.
