BEARDSTOWN — A fire over the weekend would result in heavy damages to a repair shop in Beardstown, according to authorities.
Firefighters with the Beardstown Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire call early Sunday afternoon to Derry Truck Services, a tractor-trailer repair shop on Kent Feed Road.
After the fire was put out, an investigation found that the fire was believed to be caused by an oxyacetylene torch. The torch was in use prior to the fire while working on a semi-tractor trailer.
Officials with the fire department said that although the building was heavily damaged, it was not a complete loss.
One person who was inside the building at the time of the fire was taken to an area hospital due to an arm injury.
Beardstown firefighters received mutual aid assistance from the Arenzville and Meredosia fire departments, Beardstown Ambulance Service, Beardstown Police Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police Troop 6, and Ameren Illinois.
