PLEASANT PLAINS (Heartland Newsfeed) — Academic results data released recently reveals 36 percent of Pleasant Plains Middle School students are considered on track for the next grade level, according to a Heartland Newsfeed analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.
The end-of-year tests known as the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, are administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards. A composite score combines the results of the subject tests.
Composite scores for Pleasant Plains Middle School show about 34 percent met expectations and 2 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category passed the tests and are considered prepared for the next grade level, college or work.
Another 33 percent approached expectations, 21 percent partially met expectations and 10 percent did not meet expectations. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.
Test results at Pleasant Plains Middle School, which enrolled 391 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.
Statewide, 34 percent of students passed the test and 66 percent failed.
Included in the report included English and language arts, in which 38 percent met expectations and 3 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.
Another 31 percent approached expectations, while 19 percent partially met expectations and 10 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.
Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.
Of students statewide who passed, only five percent ‘exceeded’ expectations.
