SPRINGFIELD — The owner of a rental car business with ties to Jacksonville has been indicted by a grand jury in Sangamon County. Urgent Rent-a-Car owner Jordan J. Monroe received his indictment Thursday on charges of insurance fraud, according to WLDS.
Charge filings on June 29 report an alleged false claim to the National Interstate Insurance Company in February 2021.
Monroe operated an Urgent Rent-a-Car location in Jacksonville at the former Dugan Oil and Tire filling station. However, the location at the corner of East Morton and Hardin avenues closed abruptly in late 2020.
Urgent Rent-a-Car operates four locations in Illinois — Springfield, Peoria, Bloomington, and Springfield. The company also operates a location in Missouri in the St. Louis metropolitan city of St. Ann.
The Secretary of State’s office revoked the company’s Illinois license plates in June. The infraction was for failure to meet certain insurance requirements.
Monroe denies all wrongdoing in the charges.
