KILLEN, Ala. — After day one of the 2021 TVACU Invitational, the Southern Illinois men’s golf team is in control of fourth place with an opening round of 589 (+13). North Alabama, the tournament host, currently leads the 11-team field with a score of 578 (+2). Freshman Braden Hoisington and senior Matthis Besard led the way for the Salukis.
Hoisington is tied for second place after firing rounds of 68 and 73 for a score of 141 (+3). MVC Golfer of the Week Besard carded 70 and 72 on the day and is tied for fifth place.
Senior Tom Cleaton is competing as an individual and tied for 25th place overall with a score of 151 (+7). Graduate student Birgir Magnusson is 30th after carding 152 (+8).
SIU tees off for the final round of 18-holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Central. The weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a high of 75. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.
