BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The SIUE Cougars golf team has been tabbed for a third-place finish in a vote by the Ohio Valley Conference head coaches Tuesday.
The Cougars earned 49 points and were picked behind predicted league champions Little Rock and Tennessee Tech. UT Martin, Morehead State, Southern Indiana, Lindenwood, Eastern Illinois, and Tennessee State would follow.
SIUE is coming off a strong fall schedule which saw the Cougars finish second in back-to-back tournaments to end the fall campaign.
“I was proud of the guys’ finish to the fall season and hope we can carry over that momentum to the spring season which starts in just over a week,” SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. “We are a very deep team, which provides competition within the lineup that will only make us better. We want to continue to gain experience and be as prepared as we can come late April at Dalhousie for the OVC Championships.”
SIUE advanced to the semifinal at last season’s OVC Championship. After finishing as one of the top four teams in stroke play, the Cougars advanced to the match play final in the league’s first year using the format.
This year’s championship will once again be contested at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Missouri April 23-26.
The Cougars will open the spring schedule Feb. 10-11 at the Carpenter/Chaney Match Play Classic in Mims, Florida.
